A Note From The Pastor

Category: Parish News,

This weekend is the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. We remain in Ordinary Time until Sunday, December 1, 2019, the First Sunday of Advent.

The summer is moving quickly with this Sunday being the last day of June. Given that it’s the midpoint of the year, and given that it’s summer, this week would be a good time to assess if you are meeting your spiritual goals for the year. Summer is always a great opportunity for spiritual renewal, which we should never pass up.

This week we welcome Fr. Jim Blazek at all of the Masses. He will be the Administrator while I am away on Sabbatical, beginning Monday, July 1st; I will return to the Parish on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Most recently Fr. Jim was the Pastor of St. Maria Goretti Parish in Schiller Park for the last thirteen years.

For Priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago, there are three components to the Sabbatical Program. The Priest is expected to go on a substantial retreat at a Catholic Retreat House. For the month of July, I will be at Living Waters Catholic Reflection Center in Maggie Valley, North Carolina; it’s in the Smoky Mountains Maggie Valley of North Carolina, a beautiful area. Next, I will be doing Independent Research on a topic which I encountered during my seminary studies: I will compare the idea of ‘mystery’ in the writings of the great German Theologian Matthias Scheeben, and the great French Philosopher Gabriel Marcel. Both are comprehensive thinkers who continue to speak to us today. And third, I will spend time with family and friends. My mother is from Guadalajara, Mexico; I have not been there in almost twenty years. I may visit other family members in Illinois, Arizona, and North Carolina.

I’m pleased to announce that our beloved Fr. Charles Ssennyondo of Uganda will visit us over the summer. He will arrive sometime on this Tuesday, July 2nd, and depart on Saturday, September 7th. However, I don’t know his schedule while he will be staying here. Please give him a warm welcome as you always do.

This past week Fr. Mike returned to Florida where he will begin serving as an Associate Pastor at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Temple Terrace, Florida.

Please keep me in your prayers, and please know that I will certainly be thinking about and praying for all of you during my Sabbatical. I will be looking forward to seeing you all again on January 1st!

God Bless,

Fr. Paul
