This group promotes activities - spiritual educational and social - for a slightly older group of parishioners who are not quite too old. Though events are focused on the needs of those in the 40's or 50's, there is "flexibility" at the upper end of the age spectrum.

We really do need your help! One of the very important ministries we can offer a person your age is to become an Altar Server. When we gather for various liturgical celebrations, especially Sunday Mass, we are invited to participate in the fullest way in that worship service. Being an Altar Server is one such way that we share our God-given gifts with the rest of the parish community. The Altar Server, as the name suggests, adds to the celebration of the Eucharist by his or her assistance to the Priest and Deacon presiding at Mass.
I would like to invite you to consider becoming an Altar Server. We have a great need for good, reliable, and prayerful servers at our liturgies, so I hope you would feel welcome to join your peers in this ministry. We have a number of boys and girls in both the School and Religious Education Program who are currently servers, so if you would like to know more about it, you can ask one of them, or contact me. Training is offered each fall.

This is the special sacrament wherein we ask for the healing power of the Lord to touch those who are more seriously ill or those undergoing surgery - of all ages. Ideally this is encouraged to take place much earlier in the time of sickness than used to be our custom when we thought this sacrament to be the "last rites". Having been restored to its earlier meaning in the church, this sacrament is meant to pray for the physical and/or spiritual strengthening of the person.

Our Lady of Humility Parish is most concerned about our sick and about all parishioners who are hospitalized. Call the rectory and we will most assuredly keep them in our prayers and Mass intentions.

Midwestern Regional Medical Center
: Our Lady of Humility has primary responsibility for hospital care at this hospital because it is within our parish boundaries. A priest visits this hospital with Communion at least once a week. Other Ministers of Communion bring the Eucharist and visit two or three times during the rest of the week. We continue to look for enough ministers so that we can visit daily.

Other Hospitals:
The other hospitals in the area are primarily under the care and responsibility of their own neighboring Catholic parishes. Victory Hospital is cared for by St. Anastasia parish. Their priests and Ministers of Communion visit regularly throughout the week. Requests for communion can be made through the desk or chaplain's office. As they are able, the priests of OLH or other Ministers of Care do their best to visit patients registered as Catholics from OLH. St. Therese Hospital is cared for by their own chaplain(s) or a neighboring parish. Again, if you are missed in the rounds for communion, please let the desk or chaplain's office know.

When You Think Of Women Religious, Do You Ever Wonder What Sisters Do?

Members of our Parish have most recently come together to form a Vocations Committee, and they want to invite you to join them in bringing vocation awareness to our Parish. The group meets again on July 19th, from 7PM-8PM. Please prayerfully consider joining this committee. You can submit your name and telephone number to the Rectory, and someone from the Committee will contact you. In the meantime, here's the answer to the question above:
A woman religious and her community look together at the needs of the Church and society to determine where to direct their energies. The way a particular sister spends her day depends, too, on the kind of community to which she belongs. Contemplative nuns often work to sustain their community in food and shelter -- doing tasks such as gardening, baking, computer data entry, or handiwork. Active (apostolic) communities are involved in a myriad of ministries -- usually with an emphasis on service such as education, social work, or parish pastoral work. The ministry choices for a woman religious arise from the founding purpose of her community, a prayerful discernment of her gifts, and an assessment within her community of the signs of the times.

At the death of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters of baptism and strengthened at the Eucharistic table we intercede on behalf of the deceased. We do this because of our confident belief that death is not the end nor does it break the bonds forged in life. In the face of death through the priest, deacon and staff of our Church we confidently proclaim at the wake, that God has created each person for eternal life. In the funeral Mass we minister to the sorrowing and console them with comforting word of God and the sacrament of the Eucharist. Through the celebration of the Christian funeral we bring hope and consolation to the living. While proclaiming the gospel we witness  to Christian hope in the resurrection... The funeral rites recall to all who take part in them, God's mercy and judgment and meet the human need to turn always to God in times of crisis.
