Religious Education Board Minutes
October 3, 2000

Present: Board members present: Kathleen Colón, Greg Krame, Renee Nyquist, Richard Pope, and Joe Svoboda. 
Absent: Chuck Rizzio, Rose Hrynewycz. Father Dave and Dianna Jurista also present.

Meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Father Dave led us in an opening prayer

Pastor’s Report:

• A visit by a seminarian a few weeks ago allowed Father Dave to visit all the Sunday morning Religious Education classes. He is pleased with the progress he noted.

A motion was made and seconded to accept the minutes of the September Religious Education Board Meeting with a modification on page two.

Correspondence: None.

• To date we have 215 families and 355 children. Ninety-two children will receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
• There was a meeting last Tuesday for the confirmation class with the students and parents. There are 60 candidates for confirmation and one for Affirmation. In addition, there are five students seeking full initiation.

Education Commission Report (Joe) The first meeting was attended by Dianna. The next meeting will be November 15^th in the library.

Finance Committee Report: August 2000

There was a brief discussion about the Fall Fundraiser. A public school in our area used the same flyer. Apparently we were informed of this but did not understand that this was a certainty not a possibility. Cookie dough sales were discussed as a possible item to investigate selling. We need to check with the school to make sure that this does not conflict with their Market Day sales.

REACH: (Renee) The balance at this time is $2,473.36. This fund is used for Liturgy of the Word handouts, Scout medals and other religious education materials. It may be time for the informational bulletin insert or perhaps a table at Donut Sunday to explain the REACH envelopes and what they fund.

Formation and Growth: (Greg and Rich)

• Greg reported that the Outreach is scheduled for October 21, 2000. The turnout on Monday nights has been very good. Most teens are learning of the activities by word of mouth.
• Rich brought a new bookmark for board members. The journals were discussed and all are encouraged to use them as we see best.
• Some discussion was given to possibly having a Parish Journal, perhaps in the back of the church. We would like to pursue this idea as a way to give a gift to the parish and offer people an opportunity to reflect on God’s role in our lives.

Ways and Means Report: (Rose)

• A letter will be sent to the Mother’s Club to request to host a craft/ bake sale during the Breakfast with Santa on December 3^rd.

• Update Bylaws and Constitution- Tabled until November. Copies of the current constitution were distributed and proposed changes were also given out. Some of the changes are quite substantial and require more time to consider.

• According to the constitution, we are to discuss a possible social activity between the teachers and the board. We feel that the current classroom visits will help to share ideas
• The RE Board considered some possible goals for our Parish improvements. Ideas considered: RE office on line, seeking grants for funding, etc. Board members are asked to consider other ideas and bring them next month.
• The next PATH date was set for May 20. This will avoid the days that First Communions are being performed
• Joe will develop a bookmark similar to the one he did for the courts. We will preview this next month.
