Bulletin Articles CHANGE
When you are submitting articles to go into our Sunday bulletin, please remember to drop the article off the week before the time you would like the article in. For example if you wanted your article in for the July 27th bulletin, you would have needed to get it to the Rectory  by Thursday, July 17th.
All articles are due on Thursdays by 2PM. They can either be dropped off at the Rectory, faxed to the Rectory, or e-mailed. The e-mail address you can send the articles to is olhbulletin@yahoo.com or olhbulletin@ourladyofhumility.org.
During the holidays, the bulletin needs to be submitted earlier than our usual time. So please if you have an article that you need in the bulletin around a holiday, please get it to me as soon as possible because the bulletin is submitted a couple days ahead of our usual time during the holidays.
If articles are submitted after the Thursday deadline, there is no guarantee that your article will get into the bulletin because the bulletin is sent to be printed on Mondays. Thank you!

Important!
During the course of any given week, there are a myriad of meetings, practices, and other activities using the entire spectrum of available space here on the parish grounds. These activities are the blessing of an active, vibrant parish family. It is essential though, that when scheduling facilities, you make arrangements for the room to be opened and locked back up, or that you call the Rectory at (847) 872-8778 and pick-up a key.
Please don't assume that someone will be there to open it for you. Thanks!!

Are You Moving?

Please notify the Parish if you have moved. It costs us money to pay for the returned envelopes.

A Note about our Parish Website:
The Parish website maintains copies of all of the upcoming events and announcements that were previously published in the weekly paper version of the church's Bulletin.
Additionally, we keep reminders of some of the many services and opportunities available to our parishioners, check our "Thing to Do" page for even more!

Social Justice Food Pantry Saint Vincent DePaul

St. Vincent DePaul Society
We are all poor in many ways. We need the support of fellow Christians and neighbors to support us in our hour of need if we are to live happy lives and make heaven some day. We are grateful this Thanksgiving to be of service to you and your family.
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to remember all the things for which we are thankful.

Food Pantry Needs Your Help
The Food Pantry thanks all the parishioners for the help they are giving. We hope you will continue to assist. This week we are asking for your help again as we are in need of canned fruit (peaches, mixed fruit, and pears). Thank you for your continued support!
Non-perishable food can be left off in the northeast vestibule of Church on Sundays, and at the Rectory from 9AM until 3:30PM Monday through Friday.

Share Your Bread With The Hungry—St. Vincent DePaul Society
As we begin the month of November and look forward to the American Feast of Thanksgiving, we give thanks to the Lord for the fruits of the harvest. Some members of our Parish community turn to us at this time for physical nourishment.

Respect Life
The most fundamental building block of a just social order is respect for human life. Until men and women individually and collectively make a profound commitment to the value and dignity of all human life, we will never find the true peace, justice, and reconciliation God desires for us.
Standing For The Unborn, Statement by the Jesuit Conference Board, March 25, 2003.

Our Lady Of Humility Food Pantry

The Our Lady of Humility Food Pantry is in need of a Co-Director. The current hours are Monday through Thursday from 9AM until 10AM. The duties include sorting and putting away food, making and handing out bags of food to those who need it, and keeping records. We are also part of the Lake County Food Resource Council, and participate in their meetings five to six times a year. We participate in the All Lake County Food Drive with the Boy Scouts and Schools in March, and the Postal Workers Food Drive in May. The Pantry is also responsible for special holiday baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and for the Angel Wreath at Christmas. If you feel the call to help the hungry or would like more information, please call the Rectory at (847) 872-8778 and leave a message for Margaret B.

St. Vincent DePaul Society
Our main source of revenue comes from contributions of our Church members. Help us to continue helping our own needy.

Respect Life
Many problems darken the horizon of our time. We need but think of the urgent need to work for peace, to base relationships between peoples on solid premises of justice and solidarity, and to defend human life from conception to its’ natural end. And what should we say of the thousand inconsistencies of a “globalized” world where the weakest, the most powerless, and the poorest appear to have so little hope! It is in this world that Christian hope must shine forth! For this reason too, the Lord wished to remain with us in the Eucharist, making His presence in meal and sacrifice the promise of a humanity renewed by His love. —Pope John Paul II, Ecclesia de Eucharistia, no. 20.

We Are Listening—St. Vincent DePaul Society
We do want to hear from you. We do need you to act as our eyes and our ears. Is there a neighbor of yours in our Parish that might benefit by our visiting them, a neighbor who is in temporary need because of loss of a job or who is experiencing a financial crisis? We may be able to assist them during a difficult time. The St. Vincent DePaul Society would like to hear from you. Please leave a message at the Rectory at (847) 872-8778 for us.

Soup Kitchen Needs Help!
"The Lord hears the cry of the poor, blessed be the Lord "
On the fourth Thursday of each month, Our Lady of Humility Parish is committed to provide volunteers to help at the Holy Family Soup Kitchen located at the old St. Bartholomew Parish in Waukegan. Volunteers are asked to help prepare and serve food as well as clean up. Time is flexible ranging from 2:30PM-7PM; the actual serving of the food to the people is from 5:30-6:30PM. Supper is provided to the volunteers since most people come directly from work. We are extremely short of volunteers on Our Lady of Humility's assigned Thursday, which makes it difficult to staff a serving line.
This is a Parish project that is not only easy to accomplish, especially with people's busy schedules, but very rewarding and fulfilling as you help do God's work by helping the poor. If you have any questions, please call Peg LaFayette at (847) 623-1639. We really need your help!!!!

We Need Everyone's Help To Be Kept Informed Of Those Who Are Ill In Our Parish
These are always a number of people in our Parish who are homebound, as well as some who may become hospitalized throughout the year. We try to visit each of these people, so that they can be Anointed, and/or to have Communion visits, by a Priest or a Minister of Care on a regular schedule; weekly, monthly, etc. Besides visiting parishioners at home, our Priests, and Ministers of Care also visit the Midwest Regional Medical Center, daily if possible, as well as 3 Nursing Homes in the area; Rolling Hills, Sheridan Health Care, and Zion Care Center. And we are also on call for Catholic patients at Victory Hospital. The hospitals do not automatically notify us, so please, WE NEED THE HELP OF EVERYONE IN THE PARISH, TO LET US KNOW WHEN A FAMILY MEMBER, FRIEND, OR NEIGHBOR MAY NEED THIS SERVICE. Just call the Rectory at (847) 872-8778.

Vista ElderCare
If you have a few, and I mean a few, hours to help one of the elderly go to a doctor's appointment, do gardening, shopping, etc., a month perhaps this is the ministry you are looking for. Currently we have 22 active volunteers here at Our Lady of Humility, and have contributed over 1,000 hours just from our Parish alone. Bless each and every one of you. You, too, can provide the great service to help our elderly remain in their homes or apartments with their independency.
If you have any questions, please call Judy at (847) 623-2994.

“Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its 'people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion."

Welcome!
If you have been seeking a Parish community in which to learn, to pray, to join in social activity, and to be of service to others — our doors and hearts are open. We are thankful that God has sent you to us, and we welcome you to our Parish Family of Faith. WELCOME!!

Important!
During the course of any given week, there are a myriad of meetings, practices, and other activities using the entire spectrum of available space here on the parish grounds. These activities are the blessing of an active, vibrant parish family. It is essential, though, that when scheduling facilities, you make arrangements for the room to be opened and locked back up, or that you call the Rectory at (847) 872-8778 and pickup a key. Please don’t assume that someone will be there to open it for you. Thanks!!

Double Your Gift With Matching Grants
Abbott Laboratories Fund Matching Grant Plan encourages employees and retirees of Abbott Laboratories to make contributions to educational institutions, such as Our Lady of Humility School, which is recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt.
Should an Abbott worker donate $25 or more to the School, the company will match the donation. Charitable contributions then double in value.
Other companies may have similar plans for matching grants. Would you kindly inquire if your own place of work has matching grants for our School?
If you have any questions about Matching Grants or the tax status of donations to our Elementary School, please call our Business Manager, Bob Killackey, or call Fr. David personally at (847) 872-8778.
Thanks to all who have and are supporting Catholic Education by donations and gifts!

A Quick Reminder!
The summer months afford to many of us the opportunity to take a few weeks in which to get away from the hustle and bustle of our normally busy schedules. ENJOY!!
Please don’t forget your Parish while you are away. Your Parish depends on your contributions given during these summer months, when expenses are less, to meet expenses during the remaining months when expenses are greater.
Thanks!

WRONG NUMBER: When calling parishioners to tell them about the Millennium Campaign, we found that many telephone numbers had changed. If your family did not receive a call, please contact the Rectory at (847) 872-8778 to verify that we have your correct telephone number. Also, additional copies of mailed materials regarding the campaign are available in the northeast vestibule of Church for anyone who did not receive copies in the mail. If you didn't get the mailings, also call so your address can be verified.
With the grace of God, our hearts will be opened to His will. For this we pray... "Lord, what do you want to do through me to fulfill your will for our Church?"

Moving? Extended Vacation?
The Rectory Office needs to know if any change occurs in your mailing address. This affects Church postage costs for correspondence, monthly envelopes, and your end-of-the-year financial statement. Please call the office at (847) 872-8778 between the hours of 9AM and 3:30PM, or drop a note to 10655 Wadsworth Road, Beach Park/Zion, IL 60099. We would appreciate hearing from you.

60099
The Waukegan Post Office called the Parish Office recently to note that many mail items are being delayed because people are using the wrong Zip Code (Waukegan, IL 60087). Please try to address all Parish mail to Beach Park/Zion, IL 60099.

Bingo
Our Bingo was started in 1972 to help our School and Parish to meet the current and future needs; Bingo still helps this to happen. In the past, Bingo was the source to replace furnaces in the School, the Rectory, and the Church; and for bathroom remodeling in the School, Church, and in the Church Hall.
Bingo has always been self-sufficient, but only because of the wonderful support of the dedicated volunteers in our Parish family. We are now in our 31st year of operation. We cannot continue without more volunteers corning forward. We need your help now. Come see us in operation. Work with us or play with us.

Traveling?

You can win anywhere from $50 to $500 playing regular bingo, or how about trying your luck at pull-tabs where you could win $l00-$500. Most of all you won't want to miss our raffle where the prizes start at $1,500 and go to??? (Top prize so far this year was $7,500).
The atmosphere is pleasant as we have a newly installed air conditioning system, a brand new air filtration system, great food, and lots of people having a GREAT time. So grab your family and friends and come on over to Our Lady of Humility this Saturday.

Save Cub Food Receipts
Shopping at Cub Foods in Waukegan can earn EASY MONEY for Our Lady of Humility. Take your receipt to the service desk and have it stamped for "Community Dollars." Place stamped receipts in either of the boxes marked "Cub Food Receipts" in the northeast vestibule of Church or at the Religious Education Office. Cub Foods will then send Our Lady of Humility a check for 1% of the pre-tax amount. Money earned will go towards general parish needs.

Parish Family
A parish is family. It is made up of older members and younger members, grandparents, babies, single and married. There are breadwinners and homemakers. There are the servers and the served. Just as with any family there are certain expenses incurred to meet the needs of the members. These needs are met from the contributions of those able to financially participate. Others serve in other ways. Make your regular offering a generous one. Use your Offertory Envelopes. Give also of your time and talent for your Parish Family.

If You Have Some Spare Time Volunteers Are Needed
If you can break away from your own "to-do" list at home and donate a few hours of your time it would be greatly appreciated! We are in need of volunteers to help us do some painting, carpentry, and miscellaneous other tasks over the summer here on our Church grounds. If you can help, please call the Rectory at 872-8778 and leave your name and telephone number. Thank you!

Receive A Blessing - SHARE! Your Home - Volunteer Host Families Needed
The SHARE! High School Exchange Program needs local volunteer families for international exchange students for the 2000/2001 school year. Students from over 25 countries will live with host families and attend local high schools for either one semester or the full school year. Host families provide a bed, meals, as well as friendship, understanding, and a genuine desire to share the American way of life with a youngster from overseas. There is no "ideal" family. All families those with small children or teens, "empty nest" families, or those with no children, retired couples, and single-parent families - are encouraged to open their home. The students will arrive in early August. They speak English, are covered by medical insurance, and have spending money for their personal expenses. Families are able to review student applications and select the student they feel will best match their own interests. The SHARE! High School Exchange Program is sponsored by Educational Resource Development Trust (ERDT). For more information about hosting, please call Terese Galey, Midwest Regional Director, at 1-800-772-3738, or e-mail her at teresegaley@earthlink.net.

Your Attention Please!
We received word, recently, of some very malicious mischief that seems to be making the rounds. It seems that someone identifying himself as an AT&T Service Technician calls on the phone, and explains that he is conducting a test on the telephone lines. He says that to complete the test he needs you to enter nine (9), zero (0), and the pound sign (#), and then hang up.
Upon contacting the telephone company to verify this, we were told that by pressing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number. This scam has been originating from many jails/prisons. This information was verified by UCB Telecom, Pacific Bell, MCI, Bell Atlantic, Verizon, and GTE. They all ask that we do what we can to pass along this information. Do not press 90# and hang up for ANYONE!

Archdiocese Condemns Abortion Drug
Excerpts from the Chicago Archdiocese's Statement on RU-486: The legacy of our government's rejection of fundamental human dignity is again made clear in the FDA's decision to sanction a new method of killing our offspring. This decision further debases our culture, the medical profession, and the inherent rights of every human person created in the image and likeness of God.
In this year when even partial-birth abortion was declared "protected" by the Constitution, the question becomes increasingly urgent: how much more state-sanctioned killing and callous indifference to life can our society withstand?

Vocation to Religious Life or Priesthood
Everyone has a vocation. But not everyone has a vocation to religious life or priesthood.
The key to hearing your personal call is to accept the notion that for each person God has a plan and purpose.
...The key to hearing a call to Church ministry is to accept the notion of personal call, and how you can best use your gifts in special loving service.
If you are thinking about Church ministry or believe that you have this calling.. let's talk about it.. please call (312) 751-5240.

The Women's Center
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 1995 there were 311 abortions for every 1,000 live births for a total of 1,210,883 abortions. The Women's Center of Greater Chicagoland is a pro-life, non-profit counseling organization that helps women in difficult pregnancies. We have helped approximately 5,000 women and their families. We receive no government funding. There are a number of ways in which you can participate in this rewarding ministry. Please call (773) 794-1313 for more details and information.
Donations of baby items are always needed, and all donations are income tax deductible. If you would like to help in this way, please call (773) 794-1313 or (773) 794-0162.

Right to Life
An essential feature of support for the inalienable right to life, from conception to natural death, is the effort to provide legal protection for the unborn, the handicapped, the elderly, and those suffering from terminal illness. As bishops, you must continue to draw attention to the relationship of the moral law to constitutional and positive law in your society: "Laws which legitimize the direct killing of innocent human beings are in complete opposition of the inviolable right to life of every individual; they thus deny the equality of everyone before the law."
What is at stake here is nothing less than the indivisible truth about the human person on which the founding fathers staked your nation's claim to independence. -- Ad limina address of Pope John Paul II to bishops of California, Nevada, and Hawaii, October 2, 1998
